The City
of Carrollton, county seat of Carroll County, Georgia is
located 50 miles west of Atlanta, 80 miles east of Birmingham, Alabama and 14 miles south of Interstate 20 at the
junction of U.S. 27 and Ga. Highway 16.
Incorporated on December 22, 1829,
by act of the Georgia General Assembly, Carrollton was named in honor of Charles Carroll, one of the signers of the
Declaration of Independence. With a current estimated population of 20,000, the city serves as a communications, technology,
retail, commercial, education, manufacturing and health care center for several counties in west Georgia and east Alabama.
Carrollton is governed by
a mayor (elected at large) and four council members (elected by ward) who establish city policy. Policy directives are
implemented by the City Manager, a full-time individual who directs city operations through department heads and support
staff.
